Yangtze Valley region, China

(Sasa tessellata) The leaves of this species, which may be up to 24" long and 4" wide, are among the largest of any bamboo in cultivation. Requires at least some shade, and tolerates heavy shade. Voles (field mice) are fond of the rhizomes and can be a nuisance - although this has not been a problem in our plantings.
